New rules aim to reduce problems with movers
Hiring a mover is always a bit scary. Will everything arrive in good shape? Will the mover ask for more money? In-state movers must now follow some new rules designed to reduce confusion and eliminate problems. They are required to provide a written estimate for every move, not just when the customer requests one. “It makes it very clear to the customer and to the moving company whose responsibility is what,” said Marilyn Meehan with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission She says that receipt makes it easier to complain if there’s a problem with the move. “Because you have written proof and an estimate that talks about all of the conditions that were on a particular move.” Along with that receipt, the mover must give you a moving guide. English and Spanish versions are available. Another important change: To get an operating permit, a moving company must have insurance for the household goods it carries.
