Insurance Payment Protection

Filed under: Moving, Storage, apartment, billing, insurance, local moving — admin @ 8:00 am

An insurance payment protection policy can help an individual protect his credit rating in case of job loss or a serious accident or illness. Depending on the coverage, such a policy may also pay off certain types of indebtedness in case of death. It seems that people are very interested in these types of policies, perhaps because of the current economic situation. So many employees are fearful about losing their jobs that it’s only natural for them to look for ways to handle indebtedness. People are worried that a loss of income will result in bills not getting paid and that this will have an adverse affect on their credit rating. Scripture says: “‘Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God’” (Leviticus 26:1).

But how many conscientious people worship at the altar of the almighty credit score? Of course, they don’t mean for the score to be an idol, but too often that is what it becomes. A person is so afraid of a drop in the credit rating that he sometimes makes poor decisions just to keep that from happening. But fear isn’t a good reason for purchasing insurance payment protection coverage.

There are three major credit-reporting companies that keep track of consumers’ credit histories. Each one has its own unique formula for coming up with a number that represents an individual’s credit-worthiness the ability to pay back loans. The formulas include such factors as income, lines of credit, and payment history. A person’s score often determines whether or not she is eligible for the best interest rates when purchasing an automobile or a house.

Cash moving industry shakeup may see writing on the wall for Chubb & Armourguard

Filed under: Moving, local moving — admin @ 8:00 am

Westpac bank has announced an agreement to drop Chubb and move to Australian company Armaguard Currency Management (ACM) for all its cash moving business in New Zealand.

ACM will commence as Westpac’s cash in transit and ATM service provider in mid 2009 following Chubb several months ago raising its prices 40% at the same time as saying they could not guarantee the level of service needed to keep ATMs and bank branches supplied with cash.

Chubb’s move was a desperate play to stay afloat as it has been losing money following a price war with fellow duopoly incumbent ADT Armourguard, where each company has been effectively cutting their own throats for years by reducing margins every time a tender came up.

The American owners of Chubb – UTC – appear happy to see Chubb fold in New Zealand as it cuts a loss making business, while Tyco, the American owners of ADT Armourguard, refuses to commit resources to take the banks’ business because the New Zealand market is so small.
ACM is wholly owned by Linfox in Australia, are highly capitalised, control over 70% of the Australian market, and have taken the traditional ‘cash in transit’ service to an advanced level.

U-Haul’s sales flat in tight economy

While U-Haul International keeps one eye on the shaky economy, it has the other on customers who no longer want to load a trailer and move it themselves. Earnings for Amerco Inc., the parent of 63-year-old U-Haul International, have been slipping for years because of the sluggish economy, increased competition in the moving-equipment market and storage-room rental business and perhaps demographics. There isn’t much Amerco chairman Joe Shoen can do about the economy, but he is looking at how the company can serve those who don’t want to move on their own. The company may even enter the portable storage-container business to attract those customers.

Choosing A Moving Company

Relocating your home is a stressful endeavor usually strewn with individual little challenges along the way. If you are hiring a professional mover to assist you, it is essential to choose a moving company that will make the process easier, not harder. In this respect, a big national moving company will serve you better than a locally based mover. Not only can you be assured of a competitive price, you will have peace of mind knowing your possessions will arrive intact, on time, and end up in the right place. Since the Household Goods Transportation Act came into effect in 1983, the moving industry has become more and more seedy and represents an area where the consumer must be wary and cautious in order to guard against being taken advantage. Since there is more competition in the moving industry than ever before, most companies will do anything they can to offer the lowest possible price. Moreover, small, local movers will be apt to try to scam a hapless individual whose belongings can be held for a ransom. One common scam is the low-ball (and ultimately inaccurate) estimate.

Moving companies hurt by housing market, fuel costs

“Real estate isn’t selling as it should,” said J.R. Smith, vice president of Benson Transfer United Van Lines in Omaha. “We just haven’t hired any new people.” Normally, Benson Transfer would hire up to 25 high school and college students as temporary workers for the summer. At least the company has not been forced to lay off any of its 40 full-time employees, Smith said. The cost of diesel fuel has cut into Benson Transfer’s profits, although the company tries to recoup some of those expenses with fuel surcharges that, depending on the destination, are regulated by the State of Nebraska or the federal government, Smith said.
