- Contact your doctors, dentist, pharmacist, veterinarian , attorney, and doctors to notify them of your move and ask for referrals. Arrange for records to be transferred or sent to you, transfer prescriptions with your doctor’s help.
- Contact your insurance agents and ask how you can transfer your insurance (home, auto, boat) so protection is continuous.

- If you are the renter, give written notice to your landlord according to the terms specified in your lease. Find out the requirements for getting your deposit back and when you can expect it. Give the landlord your new address.
- If you own your own home, talk to your real estate agent about the move. If you haven’t yet sold your house, ask the broker to put extra energy into getting potential buyers into the home while it is still occupied. Work out the logistics for transferring keys and documents tot he real estate agent or the new buyer.

- Put together a calender showing the weeks leading up to your move. Post it where everyone can see, on the family bulletin board or the refrigerator. Jot down estimate appointments, garage sale dates, going-away celebration’s possible moving days.
- If an employer is paying for some or all of your moving expenses, find out exactly what expenses it will be paying for. What kinds of documentation it needs and what forms do you need to fill out? How will the company be handling payment.
